Winter hiking & snowshoeing in Lech

Around 50 kilometres of groomed winter hiking trails lead through snow-covered forests, along the Lech river and up to scenic high-altitude viewpoints. Look forward to short walks and leisurely circular routes, as well as longer, more demanding tours through the quiet Zugertal valley.

Winter forest loop Zugertal
The approximately seven-kilometre winter forest loop starts in the centre of Lech and leads along the Lech river through light forests and across snow-covered clearings to Zug. You should allow around two hours for the circular hike. The continuously groomed and marked trail has been awarded the Austrian Hiking Seal of Quality. In Zug, there are several lovely places to stop for a cozy break.

Zug circular walk
The Zug circular walk is especially suitable for families and anyone looking for a relaxed winter stroll. The starting point is the bus stop by the Kirchle in Zug. The almost three-kilometre route partly follows the cross-country ski trail and then leads back into the village. You will need around 50 minutes for the walk.

Snowflake panoramic trail on Rüfikopf
High above Lech, a 2.7-kilometre circular trail awaits you on Rüfikopf with wide-open views of the snow-covered mountains. The trail starts directly at the mountain station of the Rüfikopf cable car and leads across the sunny high plateau. Several stations along the way share interesting facts about snow and the people of the Arlberg. You should allow around one and a half hours for this easy circular walk.

Lech to Skyspace
This winter hike combines movement, mountain views and contemporary art. From Lech, the almost three-kilometre trail leads up to Oberlech and on to Skyspace Lech by James Turrell. Along the way, you cover around 350 metres in altitude. Once at the top, you can visit the walk-in art installation and enjoy the view of the surrounding mountains. For the way back, the Oberlech cable car is also a convenient option.

Älpele to Spullerwald to Tannlägeralpe to Zug
Anyone looking for a longer winter hike will find a particularly peaceful route in the Zugertal valley. The approximately ten-kilometre tour starts at Älpele and leads to Tannlägeralpe. From there, the route continues through the Spullerwald forest and along the Lech river back to Zug. You should allow just under three hours for this moderately difficult hike.
Zürs to Flexenpass to Zürs
From the Trittkopfbahn, a groomed winter hiking trail leads up to Flexenpass at 1,773 metres. Thanks to its south-facing location, the approximately 40-minute tour is especially enjoyable in sunny weather. After a break at Flexenpass, you return to Zürs along the same route.
